We have seen the Samsung Gear S2 in its teaser video and also one of Samsung’s VP showcasing it on his wrist , and all this is going on before its IFA 2015 debut. The Samsung Gear S2 was known Internally as the Samsung Orbis and a couple of model numbers had been mentioned, the SM-R720 and SM-R732.
Now we have seen these two models, the Samsung Gear S2 & S2 Classic, listed in filings at the FCC database, model numbers SM-R720 and SM-R732. We can see that the SM-R720 should be released under the “Samsung Gear S2” name and the SM-R732 should be called the “Gear S2 Classic”. One thing that is a bit of a surprise is that they are only have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) connectivity, and no mention of cellular radios, as we expected at least one model to be able to exist as a standalone device. Don’t be too surprised to see a cellular variant to be released after these two models.
Both devices have a circular form factor with a Super AMOLED 360 x 360 display, an Exynos 3472 SoC, 768 MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. Also rumoured is an NFC radio and a 250 mAh battery.
FCC Listings: SM-R732 / SM-R720
