The Netherlands gaming regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa), has issued best practices in recording player files following a roundtable discussion earlier this year.
It was back in May when the conversations took place on improving the recording in player files, with these described as being ‘essential’ for the regulator.
These are files for individual players that include pseudonymized transaction data, analysis of gambling behavior, and contact moments with the player. The file must also show whether and how the provider intervened in such a case.
The Ksa states it has conducted multiple file investigations since October 2021, with these files allowing it to gain insight into what providers in the market are doing well and where there is still room for improvement.
The Netherlands Gambling Authority was established in 2012 and aims to keep the sector safe and fair within the country. Its mission is all about ‘Playing Safely’ and states it strives to create a world where gambling services are reliable, operators are transparent, and players are protected.
Ksa issues ‘five points of attention for good recording,’ relating to player files
One of the insights the regulator has found is that there were differences in the market in how and what is recorded within a player’s file. This was then discussed at the roundtable, with five points of attention for good recording discussed with providers.
“The idea behind the conversation was that improved recording for providers leads to better substantive files, which then help the Ksa strengthen its supervision and protect players,” the authority said.
The five points, translated into English, include what the Ksa wants to be able to read within the file log. These include: For what reason or occasion (what is the risk?), in clear language, at what time, by which department, and which steps have or have not been taken.
A step-by-step file research plan has also been developed, along with details from the roundtable.
