Brave Search introduces AI chat function to “bridge the gap”

Brave has confirmed it is adding an AI chat mode as an additional offering to its Brave Search function.

The new tool will enable users to ask follow-up questions based on initial search terms, in addition to the AI-powered summaries that are returned with a search result.

This is similar to what is offered by Google, but Brave is going one step further with the option to launch a resourceful conversational search, going deeper as required with real-time data online.

Brave Search was launched to provide an alternative to market leader Google, providing a privacy-first option without browser activity being tracked or profiled.

The introduction of the AI chat mode will complement the ‘Answer with AI’ summaries that have appeared at the top of search results. This has proven to be a hit with users, generating more than 11 million responses daily.

How to use Brave AI chat mode

In its introduction for the new feature, Brave has asserted how web users rely on different tools for different needs.

It explained how search engines are great at finding initial data or an image, but they struggle to provide follow-up support. Meanwhile, chatbots allow conversational exchanges but are not overly effective with search.

The company states its most recent addition “bridges this gap by adapting the experience based on the nature of each query, eliminating the need for users to choose between chat-first or search-first approaches”

To use Brave’s new function, users should navigate to search.brave.com. Those with Brave already set as the default search engine just need to type in the address bar.

Once you enter a query, a response will be populated with the AI summary visible at the top of the results, with the option to continue with follow-up questions.

The service is now available for all users across the world, free of charge, but reasonable use limits apply.
