The social network Threads has officially reached 275 million monthly active users, just over a year after the platform was launched.
In July 2023 Meta added Threads to its repertoire of social media platforms, from the same team that runs Instagram.
On Sunday 3 November, Adam Mosseri, the Meta executive who heads both Instagram and Threads, shared the news: “Yesterday we crossed 275M monthly active users on @Threads. A big thank you to everyone who’s helped us get this far.
“There’s a lot more to do, and plenty of things to fix, but there’s something exciting about this place.”
The new milestone comes after the platform reached 175 million monthly active users back on July 3, with Threads seeing immense growth since its launch.
Since its inception, the team building the app has brought in several updates and changes including the addition of a trending section in March, fact-checking, polls and GIFs, a web experience, and more.
‘More to do…’ says head of Threads as platform reaches milestone
In early October when an app researcher suggested the platform was working on a new option to let users post Instagram posts and reels directly from Threads. The rumor hasn’t yet been confirmed nor denied by Meta.
In its original introductory post, Meta described the app as being a place to expand on ‘what Instagram does best’: “Instagram is where billions of people around the world connect over photos and videos.
“Our vision with Threads is to take what Instagram does best and expand that to text, creating a positive and creative space to express your ideas.
“Just like on Instagram, with Threads, you can follow and connect with friends and creators who share your interests – including the people you follow on Instagram and beyond. And you can use our existing suite of safety and user controls.”
