Meta is testing a feature to let users post Instagram Reels directly on Threads

An app researcher says they’ve discovered that Meta is working on a new option to let users post Instagram posts and reels directly from Threads.

Since it was launched in July of 2023, Meta has incorporated cross-platform sharing into its Threads app. The platform was built by the Instagram team and allows users to share updates and participate in public discussions through text.

">Researcher and ‘leaker’ Alessandro Paluzzi took to the platform to share his findings, writing that “Threads is working on letting us share our Instagram posts and Reels directly from the post composer.”

In the screenshot, it shows what a user would see when going to write a new post on the app. The drop-down options have been extended to include ‘Instagram’ along with the usual being ‘GIF,’ ‘Voice,’ and ‘Poll.’

People can currently post their Instagram content on Threads, but this new option should make it a whole lot easier if it does come to fruition.

Instagram Reels could soon be posted directly on Threads

When asked by a Threads user how it works, Alessandro writes “It shows you a bottom sheet with your Instagram posts and Reels from which you can choose what to import to Threads.”

If the feature is rolled out to all users, this will likely save time for content creators, social media managers, and business owners who otherwise would be switching between the two.

To further promote Threads, posts that had already been published on the platform started to be shared as carousels on Facebook and Instagram last year.

This allowed people to see popular posts and gain an insight into what the content looks like. Meta then quietly brought out an option so people could opt out of their posts being recommended this way.
