Twitch accounts that are hit with community guideline violations will now see the warning expire in 90 days as the live-streaming service updates its enforcement system.
Typically, when the community guidelines are violated these are marked against the account permanently. Now, the company has stated it’s only fair to “give those who do violate a policy the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to our community in positive ways.”
In an article explaining the change-up, Twitch states the system they’ve previously adopted “disproportionately impacted longtime streamers, as over time, multiple minor infractions could result in an indefinite suspension.”
The enforcement system replacement has been brought in from this week (on February 19) with most violations now expiring and dropping off of the account after a set amount of time.

Users can track when the violations will leave through the Appeals Portal or via enforcement emails. Those that are classed as low-severity violations will run out of date within 90 days, while higher severity warnings will remain on an account for longer and could expire within one or two years.
The most severe harms will still result in immediate indefinite suspensions, with Twitch also aiming to hold users accountable for repeated harmful behavior. As such, they’ve brought in ‘escalating consequences.’
The company states it will follow an internal framework to determine the categories of harm levels. This includes situations that present an urgent risk to physical safety while the low end includes those that are lower in urgency and could result in more of a mild disruption or annoyance.
“If you violate within the same policy category (i.e. hateful conduct) multiple times within the violation’s expiration window (90 days, 1 year, or 2 years, depending on the violation), the length of suspension you receive for each subsequent violation will increase.”
There will also be more information shared on the incident that has occurred as it is noted this can be confusing when streaming for multiple hours. While this hasn’t yet been brought in, Twitch will soon share the chat message or a snippet of the stream that led to the enforcement.
