Samsung Smart TV contents in Europe expand to UHD & HDR with TV Plus Launch

Samsung had kick-started moves to spread its TV Plus service across Europe when it signed a partnership deal with Rakuten TV-owned video-on-demand service Wuaki. The service has been available in Germany since January but now Samsung has expanded its premium Smart TV content service TV PLUS in Europe. The service will enable a larger number of users to access Ultra-High Definition (UHD) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) content more than ever before, an area Rakuten TV is a leading provider. Now, not just only those in Germany, but consumers based in France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom will also join the cadre of those that will get a wide range of options available for movie enthusiasts and families to enjoy.
Samsung first launched the TV Plus app in 2015 in South Korea and since then, its reach has continued to grow. It’s already available across North America and Southeast Asia and as stated earlier, it made its debut in Germany in January this year.The TV Plus interface allows Samsung Smart TV users in Europe to easily find their favourite content similar to the way viewers navigate the channel menus for their traditional cable or TV providers. It comes with Video-on-Demand (VOD) shows and movies which will be delivered through the users’ internet connection.

Most spectacular aspect is that users will be able to view movie contents on their Samsung Smart TVs in the highest of UHD and HDR quality through multiple channels directly on their Samsung Smart TVs.The TV Plus app is designed with a familiar user interface which makes retrieving UHD and HDR content both simple and enjoyable. Among the various UHD movies available via TV Plus are titles such as “Passengers,” “Moneyball,” “Hotel Transylvania” and much more.
Speaking at the roll out of the service, Herman Lee, Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics had this to say;

“Our goal at Samsung is to create innovative and valuable technology that makes our consumers’ lives easier and more enjoyable when it comes to watching their favourite content….With the European expansion of TV PLUS, we are thrilled to provide additional consumers access to new movies in UHD and HDR quality.”

Samsung TV Plus app’s Video-on-Demand movies are categorized into three: New Releases, Family and UHD. The “New Releases” category includes titles that have been released within the past six-to-eight weeks. On the other hand, the Family category includes newly released family-friendly titles as well as best-selling movies, while the UHD category is made up of movies that were recently released in UHD. Each new week sees fresh new and top selling contents coming onboard the various categories.
