Bixby, Samsung’s digital personal assistant, has been steadily improving since it was launched earlier this year. The Artificial Intelligence powered virtual assistant was introduced by Samsung Electronics alongside Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus. Bixby predictably made it to the Galaxy Note 8 as well. Now as per a recent report, Samsung might possibly be launching Bixby for Samsung TVs very soon.
Samsung on Wednesday filed a trademark for the term “Samsung Connected Life with Bixby.” The trademark, filed with European Union Intellectual Property Office, describes that Samsung Connected Life with Bixby is “software for television in order to find the desired service and / or contents of television by recognition or user’s voice.” So it more or less confirms that Samsung is going to launch Bixby for Samsung TVs soon.
As of now, Bixby is available only in a handful of Samsung’s flagship smart phones and a few other first-party offerings from Samsung. Samsung has been vocal about its plan to expand Bixby in more devices in the future and Samsung TVs might be the first of many to come. Though Bixby is available in more than 200 countries, it currently supports Korean and English languages only. Samsung recently launched support for Chinese in Beta. So eventually Chinese will be the third language to be supported by Bixby and there’s no reason why all of these three languages won’t be available in Bixby for Samsung TVs.
Samsung has recently confirmed that its developing a Bixby-enabled speaker in collaboration with its subsidiary Harman. The product is expected to be unveiled at the annual Consumer Electronics Show next year. Samsung has been unveiling its Smart TVs at CES for some time now, so it’s likely that Bixby for Samsung TVs will also be announced at CES 2018 in January.
Given that Bixby for Samsung TVs, or we can say Bixby for Tizen is on its way, we all hope that Samsung eventually launches a Bixby compatible high-end Tizen smartphone.
