Samsung expands its HDR10+ ecosystem, adds more industry partners

Samsung Electronics is expanding its high dynamic range 10 plus (HDR10+) ecosystem to 45 industry partners. The new partnerships will bring more true-to-life picture quality content to viewers, the company says. Samsung has also announced the construction of a new certification center in China.

Samsung HDR10+ ecosystem expansion

Launched in June 2017, the HDR10+ is Samsung’s next-generation technology for picture processing. The latest HDR technology, which optimizes brightness levels and contrast for each scene, allows screens to deliver vivid and wide depth of field images. As Samsung says, the technology delivers a “lifelike viewing experience”. And now with new partnerships, the company is bringing more such HDR10+ content for the viewers.

Samsung has been making various steps to vitalize what it calls the “ecosystem” of the HDR10+ technology. The new partners, which include Rakuten TV, MEGOGO and ARSPRO among others, will now help the company in its efforts. They will be offering HDR10+ content on Samsung Smart TVs starting in the first half of 2019. Samsung is also building partnerships with major smartphone chip manufacturers Qualcomm and Arm.

“With HDR emerging as one of the most important technologies for ultra-high picture quality, Samsung’s HDR10+ format is gaining recognition,” said Hyogun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “HDR10+ has already been well-received by major companies across a variety of industries. Samsung will continue to build on this, solidifying our HDR standard technology leadership and maintaining our presence in the global TV market.”

Samsung has also been in a lookout to set up a licensing institute that will provide a certificate and logo program for HDR10+. The company seems to have zeroed in at a location in China. The company will build a new HDR10+ center in the country. Samsung has already opened certification centers in Korea, Japan and the US.
