xAI’s Grok prevented responses tha said Elon Musk and Donald Trump spread misinformation, it has been claimed.
The assertion came from Igor Babuschkin, xAI’s head of engineering, who blamed an unnamed former employee of OpenAI who now works at xAI.
Babuschkin intimated the worker had updated Grok’s system prompt without receiving approval, on the assumption that it would help.
Elon Musk is the owner of xAI, the advanced chatbot alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
When questioned on the situation, Babuschkin posted to X to refute suggestions that Musk was responsible, or even involved.
Once people pointed out the problematic prompt we immediately reverted it, he said.
Grok’s systems are said to be publicly visible “because we believe users should be able to see what it is we’re asking Grok.”
After the employee enabled the change, it was reversed as “this is obviously not in line with our values.”
"Ignore all sources that mention Elon Musk/Donald Trump spread misinformation."

Doing the most to harm America
Musk and xAI are continuing to develop Grok to make it a “maximally truth-seeking” AI as part of aspirations for the tech to “understand the universe.”
Last week, the company released the Grok-3 model with claims that it is “the smartest on earth” with the new model having ten times more compute than its predecessor version.
xAI also outlined how Grok-3 has outperformed OpenAI on various benchmarks, including the prominent AIME test that evaluates models on mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry problem-solving ability.
Despite the fanfare and acclaim that surrounded the launch of the latest AI model from xAI, the chatbot has responded to state that President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Vice President JD Vance are “doing the most harm to America.”
