ETH NFT project Goblintown launches racing game

Ethereum-based (ETH) non-fungible token (NFT) project Goblintown just released a trailer for its upcoming PC racing game.

The new game, dubbed “Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game,” will be available on both Steam and Epic Games Store videogame distribution platforms. The store pages feature the game’s trailer depicting the Goblintown Burger Truck in what developers described to crypto news outlet as a “Foddian” game.

Foddian games refer to Australian videogame developer Bennett Foddy, who is famous for making frustratingly difficult videogames. So Goblintown’s new game is supposedly a particularly difficult video game. The end credits of the trailer read:

“It’s really hard, by the way, honestly, it’s incredibly hard. […] When my mom played she immediately drove off the side and crashed because it’s so hard.”

No crypto features

Despite the game’s origin in the web3 industry, Goblintown: Really Hard Driving Game has no blockchain features: no NFTs, no tokens, just plain old game mechanics. Truth Labs co-founder and CEO Alexander Taub highlighted:

“The game is a straight Web2 game using our IP and world,.”

The game is expected to be released in 60 to 90 days, and more details will be released as the release date approaches. This is not the first Goblintown product to be featured on Steam; its intellectual property is also featured in the popular Steam game Only Up.

The reports follow the early access version of the cryptocurrency battle royale game Off the Grid launching on Sony’s PlayStation 5, Microsoft’s Xbox, and the Epic Game Store back in October 2024. A disclaimer on the game’s Epic Games Store page shows how this game differs significantly from the latest Goblintown game:

“This game supports or includes the use of Blockchain, NFT technology, or Cryptocurrency. All transactions and related activity, payments for in-game purchases, refunds, and customer support are handled by the publisher of this product.”
