We are living in an age when security is a major concern, and rightfully so. The world of IoT and mobile has all sorts of weaknesses and pitfalls that we must all navigate – especially when cryptocurrency is involved. Now the guys over at Sikur are ready with their next-generation SIKURPhone to take on this challenge. What is so special about it? They claim this will be the first fully encrypted and hack-proof smartphone that has the ability to safely store cryptocurrencies, in the companies own cloud, that does not compromise on security.
The pre-sale begins today, February 27th, with a limited supply of only 20,000 units being available. If you buy one now, for the pre-sale price of $799, you can expect delivery in August of this year. This isn’t the first time the security-focused company has created a secure phone, as back in 2015 they created the Granite Phone. This mobile was aimed at security-conscious governmental and corporate users but found a significant amount of followers that would be classed as everyday consumers.
Specifications wise the phone has a 5.5-inch Gorilla Glass HD display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 13MP rear facing camera and 5MP selfie camera. To power the unit there is a 2800 mAh battery. This device runs on a forked version of Android and has its own App Store that you need to use in order to get your apps. Application developers will need to manually submit their apps to the store for independent vetting before they go live.
As a testament to it being unhackable, during November and December, the company hired security researchers HackerOne to try and break into the device. “SIKURPhone was subjected to rigorous hacking tests for two months,” said COO Alexandre Vasconcelos in a statement. “We were delighted with the outcome. Hackers failed to gain access to any information.”
