eBay is telling customers they need to change their passwords after acknowledging a cyberattack that has put a database of encrypted passwords and other personal data at risk. Attackers compromised a small number of employee credentials that allowed them access into eBay’s corporate network between late February and early March, the company said in a blog post Wednesday.
According to eBay, no payment information—including PayPal financial data—was compromised in the attack. eBay is asking all users to update their passwords, and will be notifying users via email, site communications, and other channels beginning today. eBay said it is working with law enforcement and security experts to track down the source of the breach.
