ChatGPT, the flagship AI chatbot from OpenAI, has seen its weekly users double since last November.
The generative AI model has gone from strength to strength since its launch in November 2022. It started out answering questions with text responses but now has voice features, image generation, and more. It has become part of the zeitgeist, with the bot used frequently to write emails, summarize reports, assist with coding, create AI art, and even roast your Instagram feed.
ChatGPT recently caused controversy in the academic sector as Arizona State University announced it was partnering with the company. One lecturer called the collaboration “profoundly offensive”.
How many people are using ChatGPT?
According to Axios, more than 200 million users are active on ChatGPT each week, up from 100 million in November 2023.
“People are using our tools now as a part of their daily lives, making a real difference in areas like healthcare and education—whether it’s helping with routine tasks, solving hard problems, or unlocking creativity,” Sam Altman, the company’s CEO said.
OpenAI also said that 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies now use its products. Since the release of the cost-efficient GPT-4o mini last month, the use of its automated application programming interface has additionally doubled.
The AI market has become extremely competitive since ChatGPT shot to fame. Apple, Google and Meta have all since jumped on the bandwagon.
