Call of Duty multiplayer trailer tells us what to expect when Black Ops 6’s beta kicks off Friday

tl;dr

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's first multiplayer beta starts Friday, Aug. 30, for pre-order customers.
  • The game introduces Omnimovement, allowing players to move in any direction independent of camera view.
  • The game launches Oct. 25, with deep customization, 16 maps, and a preview event on Aug. 28 via Call of Duty: Next.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s first multiplayer beta weekend, available to those who have preordered the game, begins this Friday, Aug. 30, and Activision dropped this multiplayer trailer on Monday to set the table for what awaits fans then.

Most of this is pre-render, with a little bit of gameplay thrown in. But in addition to calling out the Omnimovement that remakes player traversal in Call of Duty’s frantic and fast-paced multiplayer matches. Omnimovement, more or less, allows a player to sprint, slide, jump, or otherwise move in any direction without facing it with the first-person camera. The results are in the slick action-movie sequences shown in the video, like firing two pistols from an airborne supine position.

Weapon customization gets a closeup, as do underwater traversals and melee combat. RC cars and other remotes will bring a lot of variety (if a little bit of a nuisance, it appears) to the 16 maps to be featured in Black Ops 6’s multiplayer.

Preceding this weekend’s beta will be a Call of Duty: Next live stream event at noon EDT on Wednesday Aug. 28. Fans may watch via Twitch or YouTube. Doing so will get them some in-game content that will be available on launch day.

What is Call of Duty: Next all about?

Here’s what fans can expect from Call of Duty: Next, per the game’s official blog:

  • A deep dive into Omnimovement innovations, gameplay, system, maps, and modes coming to Black Ops 6 Multiplayer, plus a showcase of the playable maps available during the Beta.
  • A tour of the playable Liberty Falls, one of two Zombies launch maps.
  • A detailed look into Call of Duty: Warzone, the premiere of Area 99, plus Black Ops 6 integrations and more announcements.
  • Essential details about the Black Ops 6 Open Beta, as well as  information, Rewards, and more.

Following Call of Duty: Next will be the Call of Duty Endowment Bowl, featuring a field of 10 esports teams drawn from the armed forces of the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Sticking around for that will earn another batch of in-game loot, this one available now in Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Warzone.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches Oct. 25 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
