As much as we love Satisfactory – and we do love it a lot – there are a lot of things you can do in the game that you simply might never know about. For everything it does well, it doesn’t always do a great job of explaining some of its better quality-of-life features.
If you have been playing since Early Access you will have picked up on many new additions as time progressed, but if you have just come to Satisfactory now it’s easy to not know a lot of stuff.
Even if you have been playing for a while there might well be some things here you didn’t know about. So let’s have a look at some of our favorite, non-obvious key binds.
Zoop Mode
It is possible you are somebody who has been playing without using the R key. If so, then life is about to get much easier. Pressing R while in Build Mode activates Zoop Mode which lets you place multiples of the same object such as foundations (up to 10 at a time) by simply clicking and dragging. Instead of building your factory’s foundations one at a time, try Zoop Mode. Ficsit will be proud of your increased productivity.
Straight conveyors
If you started without knowing what you are doing we expect your build to be like conveyor belt spaghetti. Twisty, bendy, unorganized. No, no no. You need Straight Mode for your belts. Hitting the magical R key while setting your belts up will switch you into a mode that will run your belts in straight lines and make the bends at 90-degree angles. Everything will be perfect, just like you see in the mind of a maniac,
Hologram Mode and Nudge
When trying to line up multiple versions of components to satisfy your OCD it can be quite tricky to see if they are all aligned. This is where Hologram Mode and Nudge come in. Place your build where you think it should be and hit the H key. This will then let you move around with your Hologram in place to check it is where you thought it was. If it isn’t, you can Nudge it with the arrow keys. Using CTRL and the arrows will allow you to nudge the build smaller distances.
Mass Dismantle Mode
You should know that pressing F puts you into Dismantle Mode from where you can rid yourself of past mistakes or stuff you do not need anymore. Save yourself more time by dismantling loads at once by pressing CTRL while in Dismantle Mode, and you can now select up to 50 items for extermination in one go.
Hotbars
Hotbars are super handy ways in any game to access things quickly. Satisfactory would rather let you learn about them yourself and chances are you have never used them.
If you go into your build menu, hover over an item you wish to add to a Hotbar, and press a number key 1 through 9 you will add the item to that slot and can then quickly access it in-game by pressing the corresponding number.
You even have 10 different Hotbars which you move through by holding ALT and using the scroll wheel on your mouse. This means you can easily set up things such as hotbars for Power, Mining, and the like.
Empty Hands
This one did me in for a while and I was constantly going back and forth between my inventory to get empty hands when on base. While moving around between my buildings I don’t need my weapon in my hand and you can get yourself a nice clean pair of palms by tapping H to give you empty hands, and H again to bring back your equipment, which you can also then scroll between slots with the mouse wheel.
Ping the Map
When on the map press Alt and left-click your mouse to leave a ping in the gameworld for others to see, or just as a reminder. You can also do it in the world without going to the map.
Chat with ADA
Did you know you can chat with ADA your personal AI assistant whenever you like? No, not many people do. Press Enter to bring up the Chat box type Hello ADA and take it from there. And no, it’s not like Tinder. It’s a bit rubbish to be honest but a nice easter egg.
Photo Mode
A game as lovely looking as Satisfactory deserves a Photo Mode and pressing P will bring up the controls here. Photo Mode is certainly not as advanced as some games, which is a real shame, but we hope it may get some love in the future.
An onscreen list of controls will appear allowing you to change a few things such as Hi-Res mode and the Field of View, and from there, just press Left Mouse to take the photo.
Crouch and slide
Just like many FPS games like Fortnite and Call of Duty, you can crouch down. Do so by pressing the C key. IF you are sprinting press and holding C will put you into a slide just like the Operators from CoD. Cool.
Well, there you have it. Hopefully some of the things you have learned here you can put to immediate use in your own game.
