Amazon and Samsung launch HDR10+ contents on Samsung TVs

Amazon Prime Video subscribers who own Samsung’s QLED or UHD TVs have more reasons rejoice now. The two companies have partnered up to launch HDR10 Plus content on Samsung TVs through Amazon Prime Video.
Samsung and Amazon have been working together on HDR10 contents since 2015. In April 2017, the two companies announced that they will start streaming HDR10 Plus content in the coming months. Standing true to their statement, they have now actually launched the service. Starting December 13, Movies and TV series on Amazon Prime Video will be available in HDR10 Plus when viewed in Samsung TVs. Around 100 TV shows and movies will be available in HDR10 Plus standard initially. These include Amazon’s self-produced  ‘The Grand Tour’, ‘The Tick’ and ‘The Man in the High Castle’. Samsung and Amazon plan to gradually add more titles to the list.

The HDR, or high dynamic range, technology will make content more enjoyable to the viewers. The new technology allows screens to deliver vivid displays by optimizing brightness depending on colors, such as making dark areas darker.
Samsung has been making various steps to vitalize what it calls the “ecosystem” of the HDR 10 Plus technology. The company is currently in a lookout to set up a licensing institute that will provide a certificate and logo program for HDR10 Plus. In September, the company announced an alliance with US 20th Century Fox and Japan-based Panasonic Corp. for HDR Plus contents.
This is the first time that a video streaming service is providing HDR10 Plus content to users. Up until now, only HDR10 content were available. So if you are an Amazon Prime Video subscriber and own a high-end Samsung QLED or UHD TV, you can become one among the first to enjoy HDR10 Plus content at home. Just navigate through to the above mentioned titles, of course there are many more, and you should see the HDR10 Plus option. By the way, not today though. From tomorrow, that is 13 December onward only.
