The World Series of Poker (WSOP) faced significant backlash recently following the cancellation of its Online Bracelet Event #7 due to unexpected technical difficulties. Players participating in the tournament unfortunately encountered severe login issues, leaving many unable to access their accounts and participate fully.
Initially, the tournament still went ahead despite these substantial connectivity problems but as a result, many frustrated competitors took to social media platforms to voice their dissatisfaction.
Participants expressed particular irritation because the technical failures led to their chip balances steadily decreasing, despite their inability to actively play hands. Several players also reported taking time off specifically for this event, only adding to the overall disappointment.
After continuous complaints and evident frustration by those who had not so smooth time, WSOP officials made the decision to cancel the tournament on its second day.
Cancellation caused even more headaches
While intended to alleviate the problem, this decision did unfortunately introduce further complications. One of the most significant issues arose from a player who secured a notable $100,000 bounty shortly before the cancellation announcement.
The WSOP has not yet clarified how this specific prize or other prizes will be allocated following the event’s unexpected shuttering, so those involved are eagerly awaiting further communication from WSOP officials regarding the resolution of this matter and how prizes, including the bounty, will be handled.
Last week we reported on how this year’s event tech has had a level up, particularly on the viewer side, as all the chip counts and standings can be viewed extremely easily in just a few presses in the app.
In addition to this, registration was reportedly made more smooth, so it’s really unfortunate to see these aforementioned login difficulties undercutting overall improvements that have been implemented.
All we can hope for is that those who were affected secure some form of compensation, especially the particular player that had such a large bounty slip out of their hands.
