Reliance Jio, India’s largest 4G network offers high-speed mobile internet connection with its Jio phones. WhatsApp is said to be partnering with the Jio Phone which runs on KaiOS to bring its chat applications to the platform. Jio phones, which offers affordable phones on 4G networks, have been the rage since last year. Although the Jio phone was the first 4G phone by Reliance Jio, the Whatsapp application was absent on the KaiOS powered 4G phone.
Whatsapp is currently working on a KaiOS compatible application for the Jio Phone and the upcoming Nokia 8110 4G that was introduced recently. This is because companies like Google and Facebook are already getting ahead and have bought their Assistant and Core apps for KaiOS platform. Reference to the new native KaiOS app indicating a new platform that can be connected to WhatsApp was discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone 2.18.38.
More deals are coming the way of the Jio Phone with companies developing their apps for the KaiOS platform including HMD Global, Qualcomm, Facebook, Twitter, and Google for Google Maps, and Google Search. The KaiOS is a Linux-based operating system that is used with feature phones, it takes up lesser resources than full-fledged operating systems like Android and iOS. We can’t wait for when Whatsapp will start rolling out its application to the Jio Phone.
