Right now, when Facebook users are trying to get online they are currently being met by a message stating: Service Unavailable.’ Other have been met by the message: ‘We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.’
It seems like it is not only facebook that is down at the moment, but also Instagram. Users have been repeatedly trying to log on but without any success. Instagram’s website displayed a similar message: “We couldn’t connect to Instagram. Make sure you’re connected to the internet and try again.”
With Facebook down, rival social media network Twitter has seen users venting their disapproval of Facebook being unusable. Both mobile and desktop versions of the app have been affected, with users unable to log onto Facebook, post comments or view images.
The outage appears to have started around 4:48 p.m. (ET) and is affecting northeastern region of the US, as well as some parts of Europe, including the UK. New reports are in stating that the Middle East is also being affected. Above you can see the reports from DownDetector. There are also reports of other Facebook services, Messenger and WhatsApp, also being affected, but not on the scale that the Facebook service has been hit.
