For a while now, Samsung Pay has been spreading its tentacles in the Middle East and now, it appears it is now shifting its focus to Africa. On the 22nd of September, Samsung Pay may launch in South Africa. This means that the much awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Samsung Pay may hit the country on the same day. As of now, the banks, shopping malls, and credit unions to support this payment platform are not known, however, all the Information will become available on launch day.
Samsung Pay is known for its swift growth once it is introduced to a region. Thus it is probable that in no distant time, it will be accessible in most parts of the country. This launch date is only a speculation and it could be coming later in the year, but it is on the cards. There has been speculation that PayPal will launch in South Africa at the same time as Samsung Pay, but we can’t see any evidence to support this presumption. Samsung has announced the partnership with PayPal a couple of months ago, but until now nothing has been released.
Samsung Pay works wherever you have Near Field Communication (NFC) or with Samsung’s patented Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology and because MST at PoS terminals is quite common, Samsung Pay should work at most of the sales centers you will visit. MST works as an alternative to NFC for card terminals that do not have an active NFC. This allows Samsung Pay to function almost anywhere cards are accepted. Shoppers can securely pay for their purchases using their Samsung smartphone or smartwatch. This payment platform is available to many Samsung Tizen mobiles phones.
Be reminded that Samsung Pay is supported on the Galaxy Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S7, Gcenters6 Edge+. Others include the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge (NFC only), Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy A7 (2017), A5 (2017), A3 (2017), Galaxy A7 (2016), A5 (2016), Galaxy J7 (2017) and Galaxy J5 (2017). Samsung Pay is also available on the Tizen running Samsung Gear S2 and Gear S3 Classic and Frontier since April this year. The Smart watches don’t only support contactless payment but can also be used where contactless cards are not supported. Apart from fees that may be charged by partner banks or shopping centers where available, Samsung doesn’t charge anything for the use of the Samsung Pay payment platform.
