Two of Samsung’s Artik IoT gateway modules-The Artik 530 and the Artik 710 have recently been certified by SAP to run on SAP Leonardo IoT Edge, thus enabling Edge computing on Artik hardware. SAP’s Leonardo provides various analytics solutions on its cloud which when combined with Artik’s hardware provides more flexibility and faster deployment of analytics for developers who are working in IoT projects from multiple industrial domains.
Edge processing allows for processing of large amounts of data locally instead of sending everything over to a cloud. This is beneficial for large industries which boast of numerous connected devices and sensors that require quick processing of the data. The processing power on the Artik 530 (Quad core ARM Cortex A9 CPU, 512 MB RAM and 4 GB Flash storage) and the Artik 710 (Octacore 64bit ARM Cortex A53 CPU, 1GB RAM and 4 GB Flash storage) along with their multiple connectivity options makes them capable of handling such large data and now with Leonardo’s IoT Edge processing, the Artik platform is likely to penetrate into multiple industries who have partnered with SAP thus grabbing a large market share.
Christoph Inauen, Vice President, IoT Go-to-Market and Partnerships for SAP shared his thoughts on the certification announcement in Frankfurt, Germany as-
“We’re happy to have SAMSUNG ARTIK as our first partner with certified hardware supporting SAP Leonardo. The powerful ARTIK modules provide an excellent choice for customers looking to deploy SAP Leonardo IoT Edge computing in IoT projects. We see this capability as particularly important for OEMs and manufacturing customers that produce large quantities of data, and want to process some of that data locally for latency, cost or reliability reasons.”
