New YouTube Player for your Gear S2, Gear S3, and Gear Sport

The available apps for Gear watches have been in short supply of lates, so it’s nice to see another one hit the store. Tizen Gear App developer Andrzej Bugajny reached out to us with his latest Gear app, PYT – Player for YouTube. As the name suggests this is an Application that allows you to access YouTube videos on you Tizen watch. Why would you want to watch a video on your wearable device in the first place? Because you can! 🙂
You have the ability to search for YouTube videos by name or browse them by category. The only input method is by the keyboard and it would have been nice to see voice input to be an option. The available categories cover news, movies, music, games, computers, blogs, auto, animals, education, travel, and Amiga. Once you have found the required video the initial playback commences with a little bit of buffering, but once its underway you are good to go. Whilst you are watching a video a red circular line appears on the outside indicating how far through the video you are – it’s a nice little touch. To get out of the video you have to press the back button, got to remember that!
This app is definitely a novelty app, but I’d rather have it than not, but then I’ve always loved the BECAUSE I CAN approach to life. Not long ago this is a feat that your smartphone could not do, let alone your smartwatch.

Main features

  • Simple search engine.
  • Search videos by category – 12 categories.
  • Favourite videos.
  • Most visited videos.
  • Full-screen mode.

PYT is compatible with the Gear S2, Gear S3, and Gear Sport. It does not allow any form of offline playback and requires an Internet connection to work correctly. One thing that would be nice is if you could log in with your own YouTube login credentials. Maybe the dev can add that? We will ask him 😉
The App is available to download now from Samsung Galaxy Apps Store for FREE. Get downloading and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
