After years of intermittently rolling out new features involving artificial intelligence, Google is now bringing everything together in a major overhaul of Google Shopping. Announced on Tuesday (Oct. 15), the tech giant joins other major platforms that are shifting AI from a sidebar to the core of its shopping experience.
In a blog post, Google announced that it has paired the 45 billion product listings in its shopping graph with its large language model (LLM), Gemini, “to transform the online shopping experience with a new, personalized shopping home.” Using Gemini, Google Shopping will only “show the most relevant products,” in a bid to speed up and simplify the process.

The system will create an AI-generated brief with top things to consider for your search, plus products that meet your needs. The company uses the example of searching for a new winter jacket that will keep you warm and dry in the Pacific Northwest.
In this case, a search for “Men’s winter jacket for Seattle” will provide an AI brief with the most important things you should know before investing in a new coat for this climate. Apart from showing a list of recommended products, it will also add an explanation of why they’re a fit for your needs.
Google has been using AI in its shopping tools for some time, as users can use the “try on” clothes tool to see how they might look, or search for items using Google Lens.
Google upgrades shopping research with the help of AI and AR
If those summaries aren’t detailed enough, searches can be refined using filters such as clothing size and availability at nearby stores. The filters also integrate with augmented reality (AR) shopping. AR shopping, which requires a product to have a 3D asset, allows shoppers to virtually “see” items as though they were in a physical store.
Google Shopping is targeting bargain hunters, providing deal-finding tools like price comparison, price insights and price tracking throughout. It also has a new dedicated and personalized deals page where you can browse deals for you – just click the “Deals” link at the top of your page to explore.
That said, the feature will only be available in the U.S. over the coming weeks.
