Apple to hire 20,000 new workers and commits $500 billion to US plan

TLDR

  • Apple plans to hire 20,000 U.S. workers and invest $500 billion over the next four years.
  • A new 250,000-square-foot server facility in Houston will support Apple Intelligence.
  • Apple will expand manufacturing and training programs across multiple U.S. states.

Apple commits to hiring 20,000 new employees in the United States as the pressure from President Donald Trump’s tariffs on goods heats up.

The technology giant announced the plan on Monday (February 24) saying it’ll spend “more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years.”

This marks the company’s largest-ever spending commitment which will see a new advanced manufacturing facility open in Houston to produce servers that support Apple Intelligence.

Apple will work with manufacturing partners to start the production of servers in the state later this year, with a 250,000-square-foot server manufacturing facility expected to open in 2026.

“Previously manufactured outside the U.S., the servers that will soon be assembled in Houston play a key role in powering Apple Intelligence, and are the foundation of Private Cloud Compute, which combines powerful AI processing with the most advanced security architecture ever deployed at scale for AI cloud computing,” the press release states.

Apple’s largest-ever spending commitment focuses solely on US

The U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund will also be doubled and an academy will be created in Michigan to “train the next generation of U.S. manufacturers.”

Teams and facilities will also be expanded upon in Michigan, Texas, California, Nevada, Iowa, Oregon, North Carolina, and Washington.

“We are bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

“From doubling our Advanced Manufacturing Fund, to building advanced technology in Texas, we’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing. And we’ll keep working with people and companies across this country to help write an extraordinary new chapter in the history of American innovation.”

While the tariffs are not mentioned within the press release, the announcement comes at a time when the US president has introduced tariffs on all Chinese imports. It’s in China where the company is reported to build many of its products.

The $500 billion commitment will include Apple’s work with “thousands of suppliers across all 50 states, direct employment, Apple Intelligence infrastructure and data centers, corporate facilities, and Apple TV+ productions in 20 states.”
