Epic Games sues cheater and donates money to charity

Fortnite developer Epic Games donates settlement money to charity after suing a tournament cheater.

Morgan Bamford, known as RepulseGod, has been banned from entering future Fortnite tournaments as part of the settlement with Epic Games.

Epic Games took legal action against the player after it was discovered that he had shared his account with a friend, called Forbes, to participate in the 2023 Fortnite Championship Series Grand Finals.

A post on X was made by the official Fortnite Competitive account on February 17 to publicize the results of the lawsuit and shared a link to Bamford’s apology.

RepulseGod posted a video online issuing his public apology, which was made as part of the settlement agreement with the battle royale developers.

Bamford said: “Epic took legal action against me, and now I’m banned from participating in Fortnite tournaments forever. I also have to pay a monetary settlement, which includes the prize money I received but did not win fairly, which Epic will donate to charity.”

The money, which included the $4 million prize pool, will be donated to the gaming charity Child’s Play. The exact amount has not been revealed.

Child’s Play is a non-profit organization that aims to provide children in need with access to games and special equipment for those with physical disabilities.

What did Epic gain from this whole ordeal? Well, many in the community who saw the public apology viewed it as Epic making an example out of RepulseGod to deter others from cheating in future tournaments.

In the video, Bamford said: “Cheating in tournaments ruins the fun for the players who earned their spot in tournaments, and I apologize to the Fortnite community for my actions.

“I won’t ever cheat in Fortnite again.”

Epic is determined to start with a clean slate and will leave no stone unturned before Chapter 6 Season 2: Lawless comes out later this year.

Let’s just hope that Epic Games doesn’t start eyeing leakers next and gives them the same treatment.
