Egyptian Blogger Beaten by Security in Illegal Detention

Free Kareem reports that the imprisoned Egyptian blogger Kareem Amer has been moved from the Burj al Arab prison but not to be released.

He has been moved to the headquarters of Egyptian security – illegal, given that he has served his sentence. There he is also being beaten repeatedly by Egyptian security forces.

From the Free Kareem blog:

“On the 6th of November Kareem Amer was released from the Borj Al Arab prison, where he was held for years, and his official release was meant to be processed, however he was detained by the State Security Intelligence in Alexandria where he faced beatings by a junior officer as well as an order for his continued detainment.”

For more information on this complicated and horrendous case, on Kareem and on efforts to protect him, consult the website of the Free Kareem organization. Case background, information on making donations and campaign actions are listed there.
