It’s becoming more likely that Apple will add an iPhone Air to its lineup in 2025. We already know that the iPhone 17 is slated for a 2025 release. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests Apple’s next big iPhone update might introduce an all-new model called the iPhone 17 Air. Back in August, ReadWrite mentioned there was speculation that the new phone could be much slimmer, possibly around 2 millimeters thinner than any iPhone we’ve seen so far.
The iPhone 17 Air will reportedly be 6mm thick, which would make it the thinnest iPhone ever!

Gurman points out that the iPhone 17 Air will feature a base-level A19 chip and a single-lens camera system. He also mentions that it’s being designed “as a testing ground for future technologies, including ones that could allow for foldable devices.”
With the SE and Air models using Apple’s own modem chips, the tech giant is also setting the stage for other devices to follow suit. The Pro iPhone lineup is expected to get these Apple-designed components next year. Plus, Apple is making a move to its in-house Proxima chip, which combines Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, starting with some devices and gradually expanding across the lineup.
Other Apple products that could be released in 2025
Along with the slimmed-down phone, Apple might also roll out two new entry-level iPads, codenamed J481 and J482. The updates are expected to come with faster processors and Apple Intelligence. The current models run on the A14 chip with 4GB of memory, but the new versions are rumored to upgrade to the A17 Pro chip, just like the iPad mini, and bump up to 8GB of memory. The extra memory is said to be key to supporting Apple’s new AI platform.
He also shared a list of other Apple products he thinks will debut in 2025, including a smart home hub. One thing that’s notably missing is a new version of Apple’s mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro.
