Apple announces the redesigned Mac Mini with M4 chip and it’s smaller than ever

Apple has redesigned and launched its new edition of the Mac mini and it’s less than half the size of the previous version, measuring in at just 5 by 5 inches.

The compact desktop was unveiled on Tuesday (October 29) through a company news release where the device has been described as ‘small, but fierce.’

The Mac mini is powered by M4 and new M4 Pro chips and has been redesigned around Apple silicon so its performance levels are boosted. It can deliver up to 1.8x faster CPU performance in comparison to its predecessor, as well as having 2.2x faster GPU performance over the M1 model.

For the first time, the mini includes Thunderbolt 5 for quicker data transfer speeds on the M4 Pro model and it has also been built for Apple Intelligence.

“The new Mac mini delivers gigantic performance in an unbelievably small design thanks to the power efficiency of Apple silicon and an innovative new thermal architecture,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.

“Combined with the performance of M4 and the new M4 Pro chip, enhanced connectivity on both the front and back, and the arrival of Apple Intelligence, Mac mini is more capable and versatile than ever, and there is nothing else like it.”

Apple’s Mac Mini is first carbon-neutral Mac

This new introduction is helping the company along its way to its Apple 2030 milestone, where the goal is to be carbon neutral across the entire carbon footprint.

The newly unveiled Mac Mini is made with over 50 percent recycled content overall, including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure, 100 percent recycled gold plating in all Apple-designed printed circuit boards, and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets.

The electricity used to manufacture the Mac Mini is sourced from renewable electricity and Apple has invested in clean energy projects around the world.

“In another first, the packaging is entirely fiber-based, bringing Apple closer to its goal to remove plastic from its packaging by 2025,” writes the iPhone maker in the press release.
