Disgraced former CEO of the crypto exchange, FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried has returned to X after a two-year break to call out mass layoffs.
Just a few days after giving his first interview since being imprisoned, Bankman-Fried has also broken his silence online, taking to X to share a series of posts about layoffs. This comes in the wake of widespread federal layoffs and Bankman-Fried referenced the controversial DOGE email initiative that’s been unfurling over the last few days in the first post in the series.
“I have a lot of sympathy for government employees: I, too, have not checked my email for the past few (hundred) days,” he said, quipping about his current serving of a 25-year sentence for fraud and embezzlement to the tune of $8bn through the now-bankrupt FTX cryptocurrency exchange he founded. “I can confirm that being unemployed is a lot less relaxing than it looks.
“Firing people is one of the hardest things to do in the world. It sucks for everyone involved,” he continued.
Bankman-Fried went on to highlight that terminations are often a result of “the company just doesn’t have the right job for them” and stressed that it often doesn’t come down to the qualifications of the individual. Nonetheless, he concluded, “there’s no point in keeping them around, doing nothing.”
Reactions to Sam Bankman-Fried’s post
After not posting on X in the last two years, the series of posts has confused and intrigued onlookers, particularly those within the crypto space. Many are shocked that posts coming from behind bars choose to focus on musings around layoffs as a concept.
One X user reposted the series of tweets with the comment: “Classic villain comeback”. Another wrote: “The attempted pivot from “effective altruist” to “thinking man’s edgelord” or whatever this is supposed to be is pretty amusing.”
