Seeed introduces new low-cost IoT kit powered by Samsung ARTIK

Chinese hardware maker Seeed Technology has announced a new IoT development kit powered by the Samsung ARTIK™ IoT platform. Named Eagleye 530s, the kit is a high-performance, pre-tested, cost-effective and production-ready development kit, which is pin-compatible with many “maker” hardware accessories.

Eagleye 530s

The Eagleye 530s incorporates the Samsung ARTIK™ 530s – a 1GB system-on-module (SoM) on a custom credit card size board. The SoM is a Quad Core Cortex® A9 running at the rate of 1.2 GHz with 4 GB Flash memory. Eagleye 530s includes a 40 pin general-purpose input/output (GPIO) and accessory interface to provide support for Micro SD, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The kit also supports ZigBee, the alternative to Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth for wireless communication of devices. It also supports full HDMI, mobile industry processor interface (MIPI) camera interface, video, and audio media.

Eagleye 530s’ pin-compatibility with many “maker” hardware accessories further expands options for enterprise developers looking to create feature-rich production-ready products. It allows Samsung ARTIK™ developers to easily tap into the extensive “maker” accessories marketplace and prototype. The production-ready kit enables developers to build hardware with off-the-shelf sensors, voice recognition, relays, GPS, cellular connectivity, and more.
“We’re tremendously excited about the Eagleye 530s. It’s a big win for the ARTIK development community. Seeed has developed a cost-effective development platform that allows the ARTIK community to leverage the enthusiasm and creativity of the abundant accessory marketplace,” said Kevin Lee, senior Director of product marketing, ARTIK™ IoT, Samsung Electronics.
