Nokia, the world’s largest mobile phone maker by volume, has announced that the company is introducing the new developer edition of MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan 1.2 beta to the developer community with the N950 Developer Device.
According to the company, the move has been taken in order to allow developers to make sure that their applications do not suffer from any drawbacks in the forthcoming new version of the platform.
Nokia also confirmed that the new offering for the developer community will be made available as a one-click-flasher for the Nokia N950 DD. This means, to qualify for participating in the beta, one must be already in possession of a Nokia N950 Developers Device. In other words, no new entrants are being accepted to the program.
The announcement was made by Santtu Ahonen- the product manager of Meego native tools in a Nokia Developer blog.
“We have done our best to ensure full binary compatibility from Harmattan 1.0 and 1.1 (and 1.1.1 Arabic) to Harmattan 1.2, but we want to offer developers the opportunity to test and verify their apps on the real thing,” Ahonen explained in the blog post.
