A man has reportedly won $486,000 at The Orleans casino off the Las Vegas strip with a super-rare straight flush.
The game, Pai-Gow Progressive, was situated in the Las Vegas entertainment venue, and the man, who had asked to remain anonymous, was playing with low stakes before hitting the astronomical sum.
Man hits $486k in Las Vegas
The lucky winner was playing “$30 per hand plus two side bets — a $1 progressive side bet and a $5 Fortune Bonus side bet,” said the Las Vegas Review Journal. Two other lucky patrons sitting at the same table took home $3,000 off their Fortune Bonus bets.
Pai-Gow Progressive has been a staple of The Orleans, and the casino says, “Part strategy, part good fortune, Fortune Pai Gow Poker pits you against the dealer in this unique game. You and the dealer each receive 7 cards and place them into a 5-card hand and a 2-card hand. The goal is to have both hands beat the dealer’s respective hands.”
The game is developed and maintained by SHFL Entertainment Inc. (formerly Shuffle Master), and since 1983, the brand has created multiple casino games, electronic and live table games, VLT and slot products, and a swathe of gaming machines. The brand found fame in creating automated shuffling solutions for Las Vegas Casinos.
The man was playing his second hand in the game and laid out a natural seven-card flush. The flush was presented as three through to the nine of clubs, which bagged the man the $461,351 progressive jackpot, plus a $25,000 Fortune Bonus.
What is a flush?
A flush in card gaming is an incredibly rare twist of fate, but a straight flush is even more difficult to get your hands on. Mathematically, the odds of hitting this hand are just 72,192/1, which is 0.00139% of overall card possibilities in any regular event or gaming experience.
