The 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution is being commemorated by a revolution, this one in film. And this revolution is being televised, so to speak, on YouTube.
Mexican cinema has experienced a revolution over the last decade. A handful of the film-makers responsible for this revolution have joined forces for Revolución, a feature film made of 10 short films addressing the Revolution and its aftermath. It will be available to watch on YouTube free for 24 hours, beginning November 20th, the date the Revolution began 100 years ago.
Among the film-makers involved, YouTube mentions these.
“Gael Garcia Bernal (who starred in Amores Perros, The Motorcycle Diaries and Pedro Almodovar’s Bad Education), Diego Luna (who came to fame with Y tu mama tambien), Carlos Reygadas (who won the jury prize at Cannes for his film Silent Light in 2007), Rodrigo Garcia (who directed the award winning Nine Lives and was nominated for an Emmy for directing an episode of HBO’s Big Love) and Patricia Riggen (who directed 2008 Sundance hit La misma luna).”
YouTube and the film-makers are inviting interested viewers to submit questions about them, the movie they’ve made or the Mexican Revolution at the MUBI YouTube channel. The filmmakers will answer the most popular questions via video on the site on the day of the premiere.
See the film-makers talk about their project.
If you can’t wait to get your MexRev on, YouTube provides a number of other options right now, including this documentary featuring conversation with those who knew revolutionary leader Pancho Villa..
