Severance season 2: When will it be released and what are reviewers saying?

The dystopian thriller Severance will soon be back again with season 2 receiving a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes from reviewers.

The mind-bending office drama, starring Adam Scott, proved to be a hit the first time around and it could see more praise as new episodes are just a week away from being released.

Scott’s character Mark is a widow who is shown going through the process of becoming a ‘severed’ employee at Lumon Industries. This procedure involves surgically dividing memories between employees’ work and personal lives in a work-life balance experiment.

“In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe,” Apple TV writes in the YouTube description of the trailer.

According to current ratings, the character is just as heartbreaking in the new episodes as the first time around and the new season has received 100% on the ‘Tomatometer’ on review site Rotten Tomatoes, with 40 reviewers weighing in with their thoughts.

Liz Shannon Miller, who writes for Consequence, summed up Severance season 2 in her review: “It’s hard not to love a show this beautiful and human, one that dives into both existential dilemmas and wackadoo dance breaks depending on its mood.”

Angie Han’s review on Rotten Tomatoes, who writes for The Hollywood Reporter, states: “It makes for a season that’s frequently amusing and not necessarily more satisfying – but one that hits, if anything, even more chillingly close to home.”

When will Severance season 2 be released?

The next season will be launched next Friday, on January 17, on Apple TV+, but it won’t be available all at once.

Only the first two episodes will be released on that date, with the others then being published weekly.

This comes almost two years after the TV show was first seen by the public, with the new series taking a while to create. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ben Stiller who directed and executive produces the show, explained the delays “It took a while to write season two.

“Then we started to shoot in October of 2022, and we got shut down by the strike in May [2023].

“At that point, we had completed about 7 of our 10 episodes, and then we had to regroup after the strike. It takes us a while to prep the show. And so, we didn’t start shooting until January [2024]. Then we shot from January to May to finish the last three episodes.”
