The first reviews for Captain America: Brave New World are in and it’s looking pretty underwhelming for Marvel, with the film scoring just 52% on Rotten Tomatoes.
As Anthony Mackie returns as the hero Sam Wilson, Marvel would have been looking for their next big hitter after a few projects have been deemed as being poor by fans.
The classic American superhero will hit the big screens on Valentines Day (February 14) in the United States, following a run of media appearances by the cast.

While Mackie has had prior experience in the universe, it marks Harrison Ford’s first foray into the world as he plays the Red Hulk – otherwise known as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.
“After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident.
“He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red,” Disney teases in a press release.
What are reviewers saying about Captain America: Brave New World?
So far, the reviews for Captain America: Brave New World are quite mixed, with critics not being overly impressed.
“No blockbuster that cost this much should look this shoddy,” said top critic A.A. Dowd. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the budget for the movie is $180 million which while is a staggering amount, it would actually place the movie on the lower end of the scale of other MCU productions.
“Compared to some of the studio’s recent misfires, this new entry is at least passable,” declared Rafer Guzman from Newsday.
David Fear from Rolling Stone said: “While Brave New World is nowhere near as bad as the various MCU low points of the past few years, this attempt at both reestablishing the iconic character and resetting the board is still weak tea.”
It’s not all negative though, Helen O’Hara at Empire described it as being: “Pacy and punchy, this is a promising first official outing for the new Captain America, even if some awkward and inconsistent moments hold it back from greatness.”
