The Galaxy Buds+ is Samsung’s latest fully wireless earbuds. At the time of their launch, the Buds+ were said to be able to be connected to two devices simultaneously and switch between the two when the situation called for it. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case. On Samsung’s product page, they once had the statement of multi-point connection but had removed it later on. Whats going on?
Due to the confusion this caused, some reached out to Samsung. The tech giant then replied that the multi-device connection only runs on Galaxy smartphones that run Android 7.1.1 or newer. The smartphones also have to have the SmartThings app installed on them.
So if you do not have two Samsung smartphones. You’d have to disconnect the Galaxy Buds+ from one phone and then connect then to your second smartphone. The switch between devices will also only work on phones that are logged into the same Samsung account. Just like how Apple’s AirPods switch between devices that share the same iCloud account.
Samsung’s official statement
“Galaxy Buds+ offers users a convenient way to transition across devices that are logged into the same Samsung account with the SmartThings app installed. This feature can be accessed in the media panel (by selecting Galaxy Buds+), and is only available on Samsung mobile devices running Android 7.1.1 or later.”
Maybe sometime in the future Samsung will bring a firmware update to the devices that allow them to have true multi-device connection. I wouldn’t hold my breath though.
