To the dismay of most League of Legends players, a new gacha skin is arriving on the Summoner’s Rift this month. Riot Games’ commitment to gacha skins continues and the next Mythic Variant coming to the League of Legends store is Quantum Galaxy Slayer Zed. It’s currently available to test out in the PBE and will arrive in game on February 20 2025. Here’s how to get it:
How to Unlock the Mythic Quantum Galaxy Slayer Zed Skin
The Quantum Galaxy Slayer skin is a variant on the Galaxy Slayer Zed skin released in 2019. Mythic Variant skins come with updated visuals, usually in the form of jazzed-up visuals, cooler backing animations and fancier splash art. For the most part, they’re meant to still be reminiscent of their original variants, with a bit more pizzazz.
As with all Mythic Variant skins, the Quantum Galaxy Slayer Zed skin will only be available via League’s new gacha system. You can’t just buy this skin outright and instead you’ll have to buy Ancient Sparks and use them to gamble in an attempt to get Zed’s skin in the Sanctum. With Exalted and Mythic variant skins, you’re guaranteed to get the skin if you reach the maximum pull limit but players *could* get lucky and pull it in fewer tries. To obtain the Quantum Slayer Zed Skin, the max. pull limit is 40 Ancient Sparks. Each Ancient Spark costs 400 RP so it could cost up to 16,000 RP (approx. $120) to secure the skin.
What’s the difference between Mythic Variants and Exalted Skins in League of Legends?
Mythic Variant skins used to be obtained by cracking open Showcase Capsules, but League are doing away with that method and using the Ancient Sparks system that’s used for obtaining Exalted Skins. The difference between Mythic and Exalted skins is the maximum pull limit, with Mythic Variants guaranteed after 40 pulls and Exalted skins after 80. Compared to the Arcane Fractured Jinx skin, this Quantum Galaxy Slayer Zed skin is a steal…right guys?!

Despite constant memes and objections to the gacha-fication of League of Legends, Riot Games aren’t slowing down with the release of Exalted and Mythic skins. In fact, we already know that the next Exalted skin is reserved for top-lane champion, Mordekaiser and will be dropping in a couple of patches’ time. League of Legends have found their new cash cow and they’re gonna milk it for all it’s worth.
