At a Gartner event in Florida today, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced that Office will indeed come to the iPad—but only after the company finishes its touch-optimized Windows version

After the company released Office for the iPhone earlier this year, support for the iPad was expected in short order. But Ballmer’s remarks suggest the wait for iPad users will be even longer than anticipated. No word on whether the iPad version will require an Office 365 subscription, as the iPhone app does.
