MGM Resorts International and BetMGM have announced the expansion of various responsible gaming initiatives aimed at supporting individuals affected by problem gambling.
The announcement aligns with March’s designation as Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG).
As part of these efforts, MGM Resorts will donate $180,000 to the Kindbridge Research Institute to fund studies on the impact of sports betting across different populations and the development of responsible gaming strategies.
Stephen Martino, Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at MGM Resorts, emphasized the company’s dedication to research-driven solutions, stating that the company is “always looking to support innovative and actionable research that can make a positive impact.”
BetMGM is also expanding its partnership with Kindbridge Behavioral Health, broadening its referral program to ensure that players in all jurisdictions where BetMGM operates online can access specialized mental health services.
“Responsible gaming is a focal point of our operations, and we will continue to invest in programs that promote player protection and well-being,” said Rhea Loney, Chief Compliance Officer at BetMGM.
Additionally, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are working alongside the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) to integrate GameSense responsible gaming messaging across digital platforms and retail sportsbooks throughout March.
These messages will encourage sports bettors to take breaks and provide QR codes linking to responsible gaming resources in an effort to limit problem gambling.
What’s more, trained GameSense Advisors will also be available at BetMGM Sportsbooks and MGM Rewards desks to assist customers.
Expanding their community outreach, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are also engaging with University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Gaming Law students to highlight the significance of responsible gaming.
Sarah Gonzales, Director of Graduate Programs at UNLV’s Boyd School of Law, praised the initiative, stating that the collaboration “has been a valuable learning experience for Boyd law students” that have enhanced “their understanding of gaming regulations through real-world exposure”, something that may have not been possible otherwise.
As the industry continues to evolve, these efforts help to reinforce player protection and long-term sustainability within the gaming sector.
