Detroit Pistons basketball star Malik Beasley is under federal investigation for his betting activity. According to lawsuits and the ongoing investigation by the FBI, Beasley is in an $8 million hole, owing to his gambling debts, among others. Now, he’s having to deal with a lawsuit from his agency as well.
Beasley is being hit with a $2.25 million lawsuit by his ex-representation agency, Hazan Sports Management Group, after he terminated his contract in February. That contract was signed in 2023 and was supposed to be for four years. He terminated the contract after 15 months.
Beasley, 28, is currently a free agent within the NBA. According to court records, Beasley was struggling financially, as the big spender began to owe debts to several, including a dentist, landlord, lender, and a celebrity barber. Among those are Hazan, which Beasley had dropped in February, who are now seeking damages in their lawsuit.
Hazan had given the NBA player an advance of $650,000, expecting him to stick with the firm while he was with the Pistons or to pay it back. However, Beasley never paid it back, spurring the lawsuit. It also claims that they had a big part in “resuscitating” the player’s career.

The lawsuit claims that Hazan had “a substantial investment of time, effort, and resources in a player with known issues (including and especially financial issues)…when they took him on as a client and provided him with a substantial marketing advance in anticipation of helping Beasley become one of the premier players at his position.”

Adding to this, Hazan’s lawyer, Daniel Marcus, added to the lawsuit:
“In the ensuing weeks following Beasley’s termination, (Hazan) made several attempts to collect the full amount of the marketing advance but received little more than drips and drabs of sporadic payments and vague promises to repay the balance over time.”
