The casino company Kangwon Land co-hosted its first addiction prevention forum alongside the Korean gambling problem prevention and care center.
The pair held the event at a Grand Hyatt in Seoul on Thursday (July 3) with the slogan of the event translating to “Korea without gambling addiction, we will take care of it together!”
During the day, presentations were held and experts were involved in discussions with one member proposing a joint research service to reduce the prevalence of addiction in the national private industry.
Choi Cheol-gyu, acting CEO of Kangwon Land, said, “I expect this forum to be the starting point for research on measures to reduce the national prevalence rate through addiction prevention and the direction of improving the private industry policy.”
“In the future, Kangwon Land will do its best to create a private industry environment that the people can use with confidence and establish a sound game culture.”
Kangwon Land is the only casino in South Korea for locals
The company has previously introduced other prevention efforts, including adding a ‘Healthy Game Experience Zone’ earlier this year. This focuses on helping customers learn how to gamble more responsibly, and the area sits in its own space near the casino entrance.
A self-diagnosis kiosk for gambling problems has also been added in the zone too.
The Kangwon Land casino is the only one in South Korea which Koreans are able to gamble at. While the country does have several (17 total), it’s only international tourists who are able to use them.
In contrast, Kangwon Land caters to both Koreans and foreigners. It has 200 game tables and 1,360 slot machines and games. However, in February it was announced that the company is trialing a “foreigner-only casino zone” as part of its efforts to establish itself as an international destination.
