It’s January and that means one thing for you Pokemon TCG Pocket fanatics – trading is finally making its way into the game.
After announcing back in November that trading would be a feature coming in the new year, we’ve got some details on it, including what cards can be traded, which sets are part of it, and more.
Here, we’ll be taking you through all of this, so when trading goes live in Pokemon TCG Pocket, you’re prepped and ready to swap your cards.
Pokemon TCG Pocket trading: How does it work?
Even though the actual trading mechanic hasn’t been made live in Pokemon TCG Pocket, the developers have put key information out there to set expectations for eager players.
In the initial trading reveal social media post back in November, this stated that only “certain cards” could be traded.
Now, in this latest info dump, we know that there are a few restrictions to what you can and cannot swap with other Trainers.
First off, you will only be able to trade cards that are between 1 Diamond and 1 Star rarities, meaning that if you were hoping to secure a few Crown or Immersive Arts, you’re going to be left wanting.
Additionally, you can only trade for the same rarity card. This makes sense since you could have just traded 1 Diamond cards for 1 Star cards if the rule wasn’t in place — a complete mismatch of pull rates, potentially breaking the game.
You must be friends to trade too, so get to sending requests to those you meet in battle or Wonder Pick from to ensure you have enough players in your roster to potentially swap cards with.
Even though the next expansion for the game isn’t out yet, it has already been confirmed that trading will be limited to Genetic Apex and Mythical Island packs.
There are already plans to “continue to expand the selection of booster packs” so this will likely come later down the line.
Finally, trading will come at a cost, you won’t be able to just trade whenever you please. This is because “items” will be required to trade, potentially meaning that you will need to gather a bunch of one item, maybe akin to Event Shop Tickets, in order to initiate the process.
When trading does come to TCG Pocket, we’re sure that we’ll be able to nail down even more specifics but at least we have the above information to go off for now.
