Google has just announced the rollout of a new memory feature for Gemini AI. Users can now ask the assistant to remember their preferences and context.
The addition was introduced into Gemini Advanced on Tuesday (Nov. 19) with the company writing that users can now ask the AI chatbot “to remember your interests and preferences for more helpful, relevant responses.”
The information shared can then be viewed, edited, or deleted. This could include information about work, hobbies, life goals as the company aims to create features that are more personalized.
Rolling out starting today, you can ask Gemini Advanced to remember your interests and preferences for more helpful, relevant responses. Easily view, edit, or delete any information you've shared, and see when it’s used.

It was only a few days ago when Microsoft AI’s CEO Mustafa Suleyman claimed in an interview that artificial intelligence will have ‘near-infinite’ memory by 2025. In a conversation with Times Techies, the CEO mentioned a breakthrough that has the potential to transform the way people interact with AI systems.
He said: “We have prototypes that we’ve been working on that have near infinite memory. And so it just doesn’t forget, which is truly transformative.”
Google Gemini memory feature only available to paying subscribers
This update also comes after its chatbot competitor ChatGPT announced the testing of memory back in February of 2024. It was then later introduced fully for free and subscription-paying members in September.
Like Google, OpenAI’s tool can also remember things that have been discussed across chats to save people “from having to repeat information” and to make “future conversations more helpful.”
Google’s Gemini is a large language model which powers a range of AI tools and a chatbot. It was in February when Gemini was revealed as the successor to Google’s chatbot named Bard.
So far, the technology giant has brought out features that enable the tool to answer questions, summarize text, write code, translate, and create images through the mobile app.
While some of the features are available for free, this new update is currently only available to premium subscribers of Gemini Advanced. In the Gemini Apps Help section on Google Support, the company states the memory feature can be turned off.
