Avowed: How to switch between the first and third-person perspective

One of the instant best things about Avowed and its game mechanics is that, unlike so many other games that would benefit from this, the game allows you to seamlessly switch between a third and first-person perspective.

Perhaps taking a lead from racing sims where changing your viewpoint is often as simple as hitting a button, Avowed caters to all tastes, and indeed gameplay moments but lets you do the same. Some parts of a game are always better viewed in the first person, but sometimes, fighting and general combat can be hugely better experienced in the third person – a la Elden Ring and the likes. So having the choice is great, but how do we do it here?

Let’s find out.

How to switch perspectives in Avowed

There are two ways to switch between first and third person in Avowed, one of which you will use, and the other you probably won’t, so let’s start with that one.

The options menu

Head into the options menu and select the Game tab. There, about halfway down you will see an option titled Third Person View which you can toggle on or off. This is probably only worth doing here f you absolutely decide you won’t want to change it ever again.

In-game switching

The perspective can also thankfully be switched while playing the game on a controller or with a mouse and keyboard. If you are using the latter all you need to do is hit the U key and you will magically transform between third and first person perspective.

If you are playing Avowed on a controller then things are also simple, just press the Right Stick button down to achieve the same switch.

This makes it easy to flick between the two situationally if you find one option better for fights and so forth.
