Is Avowed coming to PS5?

There’s nothing more annoying than a console exclusive if you are on the other side of the fence, and while Xbox and PC owners have to suck it up when it comes to PS5 exclusives – well these days PC owners generally just have to wait a year – Xbox does get some games such as Starfield, Indiana Jones and Flight Simulator that many PlayStation owners would love to play.

The latest of these is the new Obsidian action RPG Avowed which is a Day One Xbox Game Pass exclusive, meaning that if you don’t have a PC or Xbox and are tied into Sony’s ecosystem, there is now Avowed for you this February..

But what are the chances of it ever crossing the water to the Sony side? Let’s see what the future may hold.

Will Avowed ever be on PlayStation?

There is probably a mixture of good and bad news here. We know for certain that there has been no announcement of Avowed on any other format other than Xbox and PC at the time of the game’s launch. You can either purchase it on either system or play it on day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Better news probably comes in the shape of what’s to come. Two of Obsidian’s previous Xbox exclusives, the excellent Pentiment and Grounded were the first two games to cross the console divide when Microsoft first announced they were looking to publish a select range of previous exclusives across other formats.

Obsidian then is well-versed in porting to PlayStation and there is a very good chance that Avowed will eventually end up there, even though we currently have no timeline for it.

We are still waiting for confirmation that games such as Indy and Starfield will eventually get there but it could be that Avowed beats both of them to the punch. We would be surprised if there wasn’t some work already done on a PS5 version but we will definitely have to wait for Xbox’s period of exclusivity to expire, and this is unlikely to be an overly short one, or what’s the point really?
