Avowed: How to change clothing for you and your companions – Transmog explained

It’s the hot new RPG in town and you want to look your best. You can’t just be pottering around in Avowed looking like any old NPC, no way, so how do you set about changing your appearance and transmogging to your heart’s content? Let’s find out, shall we?

How to change your outfit

Getting the look you want, as will all modern RPGs is more than just cosmetic. Various items that you come across on your travels will improve your chance of survival out there. So whether it’s a shiny new pair of gauntlets you want to try out or simply to spruce up your look, you need to know how to quickly and efficiently alter your appearance.

There is nothing overly difficult about where to find your gear. Open up the game’s menu and head to the Inventory section. From here you can change out all your armor for what you want to rock with the click of a few buttons.

How to change your companion’s outfits in Avowed

If you would really like the group to feel like they belong together, like some sort of 1990s boy band, fortunately, Obsidian has given us the chance in Avowed to change up the look of our companions too.

Unlike when you are changing your own gear and simply head to the Inventory, there is a little more work to be done here to dress up your comps – and remember there is no point in dressing them up all sexy with mods as you can’t romance them anyway.

To alter the appearance of your companions in Avowed you first need to set up camp. When this is done, enter the main tent and select the member of your party you want to play dress up with. From here you can now pick the look you want and equip it.

Repeat this for any other party members you wish to alter and leave the tent. When you next head out from the camp, your companions will be sporting their fresh new look.

Avowed’s Transmog system explained

Most of us know what Transmog systems do in an RPG, but in case you are new to the scene it simply means you can change the look of your character to one that you want while keeping the stats of the equipment of the look you want to alter. An example would be if you got a nice, shiny chest plate you are fond of, but then pick up one with better stats later down the line that doesn’t appeal to your eye so much. Transmogging lets you apply the stats of the better equipment to the look of the one you want to use. Simple.

It is important to note here that at the time of launch, Avowed only lets you do this with armor and not weapons, which is a bit weird. Maybe this will get changed out and added to further down the line.

How to transmog in Avowed

To complete a transmog of your gear all you have to do is follow these simple steps.

  • Open your Inventory
  • Select Armor
  • Equip the armor with the best stats (left click/Right Trigger)
  • Select the armor you want to steal the look of
  • Press Left Trigger / Right Click to apply the transmog
  • The look you choose here will now appear during gameplay and in cutscenes.
