Popular free music streaming service MixRadio that came pre-loaded on most Samsung devices will be shutting down its operations on the 21st of March. The MixRadio service was available on multiple platforms including Tizen and was available in 31 countries with a huge library of music tracks of different genres, languages, etc. Apart from being a free service, another major reason for its popularity was its ability to download mixes (collection of tracks) offline and play them back when not hooked over to the internet. The app/service had a deep learning algorithm that would adapt to the user’s interest in music and playback relevant tracks from its library.
MixRadio during its time has changed names and hands from multiple companies starting off from Nokia, Microsoft and then was last bought by Korean firm Line in 2016. Line in a press release stated-
After a careful assessment of the subsidiary’s overall performance, the financial challenges posed by the music streaming market, and priorities of LINE Corporation, LINE has determined that future growth would be difficult to ensure and decided to discontinue the MixRadio music streaming service.
If you’re a Samsung Z1 or Z3 user and were relying on MixRadio for your daily dose of free music, then its time to find an alternative app from the Tizen Store. Gaana can be seen as a close alternative for MixRadio, the app has a huge content of both regional and international music and is free to stream.
