The Linux Foundation, a nonprofit consortium dedicated to fostering the growth of Linux, has announced it will be offering a series of both Android and MeeGo courses for developers. There are six training courses available – three for Android and three for MeeGo. The courses were built in collaboration with The Linux Foundation’s Technical Advisory Board to be vendor-neutral learning opportunities that introduce potential developers to the fundamentals of these mobile operating systems.
The timing – especially for Android developers – is critical. According to recent research from the UK-based recruitment consultancy IntaPeople, demand for Android developers has increased by 424% since the beginning of 2010.
Prior research in this area found a similar growth trend – last year, global hiring marketplace oDesk said that demand was up 710% from October 2009 to October 2010.
According to the Linux Foundation’s announcement, the following courses will be offered:

- Portable Application Development for MeeGo Devices
- Hands-on Approach to MeeGo Internals and OBS Build System
- MeeGo Training for Non-Developers
The Linux Foundation is also offering a MeeGo-specific course at its Annual Collaboration Summit. The first 20 people to register for this class will receive a special invite to attend all three days of the Summit, an invite-only event for members of the Linux development community.
