DraftKings launches new budget tool in responsible gaming push

DraftKings is launching a new tool to combat addiction and overspending on its app. Dubbed “My Budget Builder”, the newly integrated portion of its Responsible Gaming Center will allow gamblers to set limits and reminders for nearly all elements of DraftKings’ platforms.

Speaking in the press release, Chief Responsible Gaming Officer, Lori Kalani, said:

“My Budget Builder is a new kind of Responsible Gaming tool—intuitive, proactive, and personalized.

“It reflects our ongoing commitment to creating fun, enjoyable environments for our players. By enhancing how players engage with limit-setting, we are providing another resource that players can use to help them play responsibly.”

It joins “My Stat Sheet”, another responsible gaming tool embedded within the app that gives players a detailed overview of their spending. According to DraftKings, this has had more than 20 million visits since launching last year.

However, it doesn’t appear that users on X, formerly Twitter, are taking the news as seriously as some would hope. One user wrote, “I think they should offer credit after you go broke.” On the other hand, the American Gaming Association said: “A great step forward for responsible gaming!”

DraftKings works on its responsible gaming position

Responsible gaming is playing an increasingly important role in the evolving US gambling market, as more states expand access to sportsbooks and other forms of gambling. Hawaii is currently in the throes of weighing up whether to open the proverbial floodgates to the industry after banning it for so long.

While DraftKings was unsuccessful in gaining approval in California, it is now focusing on broader opportunities. In June, we reported that it was going to set up a PAC to help push its federal agenda. The newly launched Budget Builder is the next step in creating a fortified shell around itself as it begins to make more moves.

It recently brushed up hard against the Illinois government, as the state introduced a 25-cent charge per bet, forcing the company to raise its prices.
